summer spotlight on ijahala p.

Updated: May 27, 2019

Next up in our Summer Spotlight series is Ijahala Pottinger!

Also a rising junior, Ijahala's been spending the summer working with the City University of New York on an education equity program aimed at increasing college access for NYC students.

When asked what's her greatest takeaway from the experience, she replied,

"My biggest takeaway is how under-prepared many low-income, minority, and first-generation students are when it comes to thinking of postsecondary options and applying to college. Quality access to equal educational opportunities is crucial to increasing one’s social capital. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work towards closing the educational achievement gap in NYC public high schools, and I hope that my passion for urban education policy expands during the rest of my time at Brown and into my professional life after Brown!"

As you can see, she's been having a ball and making the world a better place. We're proud of you, Ijahala! 🙌🏽☀️
