A Year in review

Brown BSU is changing. Here are all of the exciting things we accomplished this past year and all of the exciting things coming your way in 2019-2020.

New Direction: We have developed a new Mission Statement, as we recognize that Blackness is diverse and constantly evolving. Our new mission of community, inclusivity, and accessibility is reflected in our new Three Year Plan. We hope that together, they will advance both our organization and our Black at Brown community.

The New Advisory Board: Our goal was to bring together the Black community on Brown's campus. While we are still in conversation with other Black organizations, we have successfully built our BSU Advisory Board. This board consists of Black administrators, Black faculty, Black alumni, and Black graduate student leadership. This board will help Brown BSU navigate issues and opportunities as they arise.

Our New Website: You can do everything on BrownBSU.com! You can download your photos and videos directly from our website. Read The BSU Bulletin to stay updated on what's happening in Black @ Brown. Browse through our website to find information on Black student organizations, Harambee House, the Africana Studies department, the Black Alumni Network, and other resources that are available to you.

Harambee House: On May 4th, 2019, 50+ members of our community came together to clean up Harambee House, which was in a state of decline. In the process, we found hundreds of books, photographs, and documents. This was the first step in reclaiming Harambee and preserving it for years to come. Now that it's clean, it's our community's responsibility to keep it that way. Currently, we are working with Black Alumni and the Brown Administration to restore and build upon Harambee's legacy.

Thank you to the Class of 2019 for their generously contributing $323.19 towards the first annual class gift for Harambee House.
